Chapter 8 Technology I really like chapter eight because it uses several ideas on how to teach inquiry science using up to date technology. I really believe that technology very important when it comes to teaching. I feel that the students must be familiar with up to date technology to develop a deeper understanding of science. It is also very important for students to be familiar with technology because it is a technology world. Technology can help students to enhance their learning by using educational technology tools such as the internet, DVDs and CD-ROMs, data sensors, digital microscopes and cameras. By using technology students can practice science in similar ways to professionals in the field do. I really love the virtual field trips and I will use this as a teacher. I also love the science exhibits on line. As a teacher using and keeping up to date with it seems very challenging but I honestly believe that the use of technology in my classroom will be tremendously beneficial to me and my students. It was so awesome when you brought the static electricity technology to the classroom. I will never forget that day and I know the rest of my class won’t either. That was a great example about how technology enhances learning. Thank you!
Leana Colletta Chapter 10 Chapter ten is about science being for all learners. When I took my EDFN 305 and 306 I learned about IDEA. I am aware that I will have all types of diversity and diverse learners in my classroom. Science is fascinating and everyone has a right to explore it. It may be challenging at times but with the use of research, technology and communication with other teachers, faculty and parents I can help each child succeed. I am very lucky to have learned how to teach science as inquiry and to have learned the 5 E-Model. I feel that these two approaches use a more diverse way to teach so that I can reach all of my students. I do wish that we could have talked more about what we could do to meet the needs of more diverse students in the classroom.
Leana Colletta Chapter 9 Chapter nine is about connecting science with other subjects. Children learn by making connections. By connecting science with other subjects children begin to see relationships and start to ask questions. Science can be integrated with math, literacy and social studies. Science can also be connected to the environment or current events. By connecting science with other subjects children start to begin to understand that everything is connected. I really like using predictions with my students. It challenges them to think for themselves and to think what if or what happens next. It also gets my students involved and it’s a quick way for me to assess my students.
