  1. Chapter 6 and 7 reflection
    Chapter 6
Assessment is a very important way to understand your students and to know where you need to go. I really like to use informal assessments. I like to have that one on one or whole class connections through discussions or by asking questions. I feel that this process of assessment gets my students engaged and involved. I feel that it is important to stop and assess your students in the beginning, during and end of lessons. this process will help me to know where my students are and to be more reflective as a teacher.
    Chapter 7
I really liked chapter 7. I fell that it is very important to ask questions to your students. This can be a form of assessment or just a simple way to get the students involved. It is very important how you respond to each child’s responses. Participation is the key not humiliation. I like the examples the book gives on page 196 (Great! I like the way you are contributing.) I feel that it is important to accept student’s ideas by reinforcing those ideas. I also like and will use the strategy probing. I want my students to take risks and build self confidence by not being afraid to explain what they really think when answering questions.

  2. Concerning chapter 6 . . . I think you are probably a very observant person, which is why you value informal assessments. I think you will gain a lot of "data" about kids this way.

There were also tons of examples related to each type of assessment presented in the chapter. These will serve as a catalyst to help you design your own assessments.

In the end, the key will be for you to develop your own assessment strategy once you enter the classroom!

I'll comment on chapter 7 on the next go around!
