Science Chapter 5 Chapter five goes over the responsibilities the teacher is going to have while teaching his or her students. I really like the statement on page 113, “Truth be known, many experienced teachers of science began to really understand science topics only after teaching them”. It is nice to know that as a teacher I am not going to know everything but will be learning and understanding new and interesting things all the time. I found figure 5-1 to be very helpful in writing objectives. I would like to know more about think-pair –share. I also feel that behavior modifications and establishing rules for safety is one of the most important techniques in order to be an effective teacher.
I have found this statement--“Many experienced teachers of science began to really understand science topics only after teaching them"--to be true in my experience. Plus, if you maintain that childhood sense of wonder throughout your career, you will want to understand those concepts deeply! In this way, you will model this love for learning to your students!
The first part of the chapter on lesson planning may have been a review for you, but it is a great resource to go back to as you plan your units.
The last part on classroom management contained lots of great practical suggestions for young teachers too.
