This blog will be a place for us to share our weekly reflections on the assigned readings. We will also be able to use this blog to discuss all of our ideas as we learn what it means to teach and learn science in today's classrooms.
As you read Chapter One in our text, think about the following questions: (1) Why should we teach science in elementary school? (2) How should we teach science in elementary school? (3) What should we teach in elementary school science? (4) What special relationship exists between science and technology?
Chapter One in the Tecahing Science book is concerned with the basic premise of the book. That is, that science should be taught along the terms of the inquiry method. This methods allows for students to learn their lessons with active involvement in the classroom by learning scientific information through expirementation. The chapter also disscuss the three levels of proficiency which are conceptual knowledge, ability to carry out scientific inquiry, and understanding the nature of science. The chapter includes many expiremnts that would be useful to use in the classroom(activity 1.2pg. 16) and highlights important terms and also traits that are necessary to teach and to learn science.(Curiosity, desire for knowledge, priority on evidence, willingness to modify explanations, cooperation in ivestigating, and honesty!)The cxhapter was easy to read and comprehend and i'm excited to use these activities and sugestions in my classsroom.
